Press Report

DAY 1

The focus of this report is to inform what happened during today’s G8 meeting, highlighting what was discussed during the council and what was proposed.

To begin with, China proposed 2 treaties in which they only explained one of. Their first treaty proposed to make an imaginary commercial road, where Brazil and Britain will be the source of oil to France, Germany, and China, eliminating the US from the oil

market. The second treaty is still to be explained by China.

Secondly, China discussed a punishment that will happen if a country that is taking part in the agreement, is not following according to it. However, Germany and France are still deciding on whether or not they will agree with the terms China had proposed.

Thirdly, Donald Trump, representing the USA, made a surprising approach: He proposed a treaty, where he would include China and the countries involved with China’s treaty and make a better agreement, that may end the trade war and even the economy between the two nations.

Another point to cover is, how other countries are responding to those treaties. According to Germany, they still have doubts about whether it is best to stay with trump or enter a treaty with the Chinese government, before picking a side. Japan does not have a side in this yet, but they will still engage in trading with both US and China. France is still thinking of entering in the treaty proposed by China, for it is still waiting to hear the other terms of China. India has not yet declared their side yet, but they had thought of entering in the proposal of China. As the meeting went on they backed down a little, and as far as we know is in favor of the treaty proposed by the US. Brazil states that it opened its market to all countries but will remain at China’s side because most of the products are exported from Brazil to China, making China their major economy ally. Britain is still in Brexit, thus it is still deciding on the matter.

To sum up, today’s council had a lot of tension between both the US and China, trying to settle treaties with the intent of winning the trade war. As we move on to another meeting tomorrow, we are yet to see further agreements, decisions, and solutions to it.

DAY 2

This report’s focus is to report the happenings of the G8-security Council, presenting the problem and the solution on the matter. As well as highlighting each power’s position on it and their next move to canalize this problem.

Firstly, as we began today's meeting with a def. con 2, chiefes of state quickly organized themselves to resolve the matter. This def con 2 was activated because an America surveillance drone took pictures of nuclear warhead missiles from China in Venezuela.

The response from China and the embassador of Venezuela was “an act of defense towards the USA”, on the other hand, the USA treats this as an act of war and says “[they] will retaliate if those missiles are not taken from the strategic point that is the Venezuelan territory”. China asks that the USA refund those funds stolen firsthand, only after will the Chinese gov. rethink their decision on removing those nuclear warhead missiles from Venezuela. Still on the topic, Brazil feels threatened by the missiles, since according to Jair Bolsonaro, a miss calculation may result in a fire or a massacre of the north Brazilian region, on the other hand, Venezuela doesn’t see the missiles hitting Brazil.

Secondly, after much time of debate between the powers, the USA and China came face to face to come to an agreement. From this standoff, they decided on a treaty. The articles on it cover from tariffs reductions, the oil and goods from Venezuela, withdrawal of military station close to china, excluding the ones in Japan and in South Korea, to withdrawal of the warheads from Venezuela in 72h. Concluding this unexpected surged topic, the USA and China came to an agreement, that is for both beneficial and relieving.

Thirdly, a treaty was made and signed by Brazil and China. The major point covered in the treaty was the entrance of Brazil on the One Belt One Road Chinese plan, to reduce tariffs on Chinese products, the acceptance of Huawei in Brazil, china trying to reduce the lack of basic sanitation in Brazil and the providence of 32.500 Chinese university scholarships to students with good academic performance and with low-class status, as well as a new china schools,  to spread Chinese culture.

Fourthly, the treaty between China, Brazil, Germany, the Uk, and India, where the Uk and Brazil would be the origin of oil, and Germany and India and China would consume it, excluding the USA from the oil market. It had just now passed, making this treaty official. However, the USA still thinks this move won’t hurt the US economy, but it will hurt the countries involved in it.

Fifthly, another treaty had passed, between Japan and India, that covers from application od Japanese industries on India to application of lower tariffs on Indian goods. Right after that, USA presented their American- French- Japanese trade deal of technology, where the USA would lower the tariffs on European and Japanese goods, of things such as electronic equipment, by 7% and heavy machinery, by 8%, and Japan and France shall lower their tariffs on the US’s GAFA’s by 1,5%.

Sixthly, Japan and China agreed on a treaty. It would cover the Nullification of taxes to electronic goods between both the parties.

Seventhly, after a lunch break, china once again blames the USA for starting the trade war, on the other hand, the USA responded by saying “ the matter now is not who started it, but what can we do to come to an even economy agreement”. Uk stands up, and states that all this trading war s not only hurting the USA’s and China’s economy but the global economy as a whole.

Eighthly, the USA and China discussed terms to sign an agreement to end the trade war. They first talked over China’s overdo of artificial dumping, after that china asked the tariffs between the USA and China to be lowered, but still, is to specify on what goods will the tariff be lowered. The next point the two discussed, was the “made in China 2025” movement, but they have not decided on an agreement to this subtopic yet. This treaty was put on hold, and for the moment has not a conclusion on the topic.

Ninthly, Brazil and Uk signed a deal in which Brazil would tax products imported from the UK and the UK would do the same with Brazilian good imported and it was agreed that if one of both countries disrespects the treaty, there would be a punishment, where the one will have to pay a 2. Bi dollar fine, resulting in the end of the deal. China and Germany made a treaty where there would be a reduction of taxes to electronic goods between China and Germany and if one of both disrespects it would break the treaty, and everything would proceed as before it. A treaty was made between France and Japan, where they settled in a reduction to all chemical products from France, like perfumes beauty products, etc., and in exchange, France would drop, reduce, all transportation goods exported from China, such as cars, vehicle parts, etc.

Tenthly, as the last treaty signed, the Brazilian federation, Germany, and France agreed on environmental and social laws would have to be at firsthand respected, and some economy topics such as the drop of 7,5% of taxes from the countries involved.

To sum up, today's meeting had a very problematic start, with the def con 2 activated, ending with a very reasonable accord between both countries. After that, the G8 meeting went back to discussing the trade war between the USA and China. There were many treaties made, having, for example, treaties involving Brazil, Uk, Germany, and China. Unfortunately, the USA did not have a very convincing treaty to the other powers, but on the other hand, there are always opportunities for the USA to continue as the number one in the world. China, for the time being, has a better chance of winning the trade war. As the meeting comes to a close, we can still say even though many have made agreements that benefit their own countries, the topic is still not closed since China and USA still need to agree in yet a few terms, such as their impasse on the “made in China 2025” movement.
