Press Report

DAY 1

Today, 08/10/2019, the UN organized a meeting of the Economic and Social Council to discuss how to eradicate forced labor, modern slavery, and human trafficking and Protect labor rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all immigrant workers. The Day started with some Ice-breakers, intending to make the delegates feel more comfortable. Both chairs started a game in which all the delegates

should tell 1 lie and 2 truths about themselves, the press representant and the usher were also included in this game. The chairs proceeded to do a small rundown of how the discussions work and what the theme was. The council then moved on to the opening speeches in which all delegates presented their countries' views and opinions on the topics. The delegates made a motion to start a moderated caucus with a speakers list so that they could better discuss the topics at hand.

The delegates decided to start discussing the first theme, eradication of forced labor, modern slavery and human trafficking. China, Russia and Vietnam recognizing their current situation about forced labour, and stated that they are willing to take measures to end those practices. These countries also said that most of the companies that use forced labor in these countries are from the United States, which replied that it is willing to end modern slavery as long as it doesn't harm their economy. Aside from that, Syria stated that it could use some funding to help against human trafficking, which led to a small discussion about Syria's regime. The delegates then made a motion to move to an unmoderated caucus so that they could start writing the resolutions. The process of creating the resolutions was interrupted because of the lunch break, in which some delegates thought a bit about the current situation of their council, which lead to a new moderated caucus when the break ended. The delegation of the United States of America stated that for it to support the resolution, it would have to acquire economic advantages in China. China denied, saying that the US already has a lot of economic advantages in China, who had its statement supported by many other delegates, which made the US start another resolution with other delegates. After that, the Delegates moved to a semi-moderated caucus, in which they continued writing them.

Some time passed and the resolutions were finished. The first resolution, submitted by the French Republic and the Russian Federation, and the second was submitted by the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the socialist republic of Vietnam. As the delegates and the Chairs analyzed both resolutions they realized that they weren't clear about some things and others were completely Illogical, taking in consideration each countries position, so the delegates decided to use the remaining of the session to rewrite both of the resolutions, which should be finished by tomorrow, so that they can be analyzed and voted.

DAY 2

Today, the procedures of the ECOSOC council were resumed. Yesterday, the meeting ended with a poor resolution which has been properly rewritten today. As it was being analyzed, it was accepted with very little resistance. After the resolution passed, the delegates moved to the second topic to be discussed at the council, which is the protection of labor rights and the promotion of safe and secure working environments for all immigrant workers. The discussion started with the Delegates discussing french immigration laws which the delegation of

China severely criticized. The United States offered help dealing with immigrants but ended up being criticized because of its relation with Mexican immigrants.

As Venezuela was about to argue with Brazil because of the poor working conditions given to Venezuelan immigrant workers, a crisis blew up in the council. A plane from Vietnam was intercepted in China with hundreds of kidnapped Vietnamese. Russian special forces were contacted and they discovered a document signed by Donald Trump, which stated that these immigrants should be used as a workforce at Apple factories in China. The delegates were shocked by the news, and some even defended the possibility of it being fake news. The delegate of Turkey stated that although the United States played a major role in this crisis, the Vietnamese fault should not be disregarded since their faulty security allowed the plane to take off. France also suspected China's actions since it called for foreign forces to investigate the plane, but the delegate of China said that is just because Russian intelligence is way superior to Chinese intelligence. As resolutions were being written the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China had the idea to encourage the impeachment of Donald Trump, but since the UN is not allowed to interfere with the countries internal politics they decided to make a case against Donald Trump with the help of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

After some time, the delegates from the ICJ arrived at the ECOSOC council together with Mr. Trump and his defense attorney, who were at the G8 meeting nearby. Trump responded a few of the delegates' questions, and mainly refused to acknowledge the veracity of the evidence presented against him. Because he couldn't stay in the ECOSOC council for very long, Mr. Trump had to leave in the middle of the case, and was replaced by the delegate of the United States, who actually acknowledged the evidence as official and real, but drifted the suspicion into China and Russia who would profit from the case. The case presented by Russia and China demanded an apology from the American government and a financial compensation due to the cost of the investigation which was executed to help the people in the plane - even though the accusation is against Donald Trump and not the US Government. After more discussion, the voting procedure started, in which only the delegates from ICJ voted if Mr. Trump is guilty or not. In the end, Trump was voted not guilty, although that being completely illogical. After that, the delegates of the ICJ left, and the ECOSOC delegates began writing a resolution of the trial, which just discards all the claims made in the case presented by Russia and China and declares Mr. Donald Trump not guilty.

Laying the case of Donald Trump apart, the delegates continued to discuss the protection of labor rights and the promotion of safe and secure working environments for all immigrant workers. The debate started with the issue between Brazil and Venezuela, but the delegate of France stopped it by saying that the most important issue that needed to be discussed was not South America but in the Middle East. In response to this statement, the Russian Federation asked for South America to be included in the topic, since both of them have as much to say about this topic as the Middle Eastern countries do. The chairs approved the suggestion, so the debate about Venezuela and Brazil continued. Venezuela confronted Brazil by saying that its immigrants are suffering from terrible work conditions and xenophobia in Brazil. The delegate answered by saying that it is unable to give these immigrants because of its current economic crisis. Brazil finished by saying that Venezuela should change its government so the immigrants can stay in their home country, which leads to a huge debate about the government of Venezuela, and whether or not it is valid. After some time, the Chairs realized that the discussion was not related to the topic at hand, therefore ordered the delegates to return to the original topic, which they did. After a lot of discussion, the Delegates decided to make an unmoderated caucus so that they could write the resolution. The day ended with a fresh resolution which will be analyzed and voted tomorrow.
